Cyberstingers Gold: Our Goals and Community Service Spirit

Cyberstingers Gold is a robotics team that is centered around two main values: engineering growth and community impact. While robotics competitions tend to focus on speed, efficiency, and skill, our team believes that the true prize is in growing individuals who are able to tackle real-world problems and contribute in a positive way to those around them. For Cyberstingers Gold, robots are more than just a project; they are a means of learning, leading, and serving.

Our Team’s Goal
Our team’s main goal is to continue growing and learning as individuals, both in terms of our skills as engineers and our skills as a team. Our goal is to build robots that demonstrate our skills in planning, creativity, and reliability. This means learning about things like mechanical design, programming logic, electrical systems, and the engineering design process. Every build cycle is a chance to continue learning about things like brainstorming, prototyping, testing, and refining our designs, as well as learning about things like documentation, clear communication, and evidence-based decision making.

But our goal goes beyond the creation of a working robot. Cyberstingers Gold is focused on the creation of well-rounded team members. Our goal is for each student to become confident, responsible, and able to solve problems. While robotics competitions are filled with failure, debugging, and other obstacles, they are also filled with lessons on perseverance and determination. As we overcome each of the challenges placed before us, we are able to become stronger collaborators, thinkers, and leaders.

Our Community Service Spirit
Community service is an important part of the Cyberstingers Gold culture. While engineering and learning are important, they are best done with others. Our team has benefited greatly from the mentorship of other teams, teachers, and the community, and it is our goal to return the favor and make a positive impact on the community. Our goal is to make the community better, whether it is done by inspiring younger minds, helping community events run more smoothly, or promoting the importance of STEM learning for those who may not otherwise have the opportunity.

One of the most important ways that we can serve is through mentorship. By mentoring young students in a robotics program such as the FIRST LEGO League, we can help pass on what we have learned while helping the students gain confidence. Mentorship is not just about helping students learn the basics of the robot; it is also about helping students learn the importance of teamwork, curiosity, and a positive attitude. By mentoring, we are helping the next generation of students that will one day enter advanced robotics programs.

Another important service that the Cyberstingers Gold team can provide is through volunteering at local events. By participating in the community, we can stay connected to the people around us while reminding ourselves that being a leader is about showing up when help is needed. Volunteering helps us learn the importance of character and teamwork, but in a different arena from the robot.
