This week, the Cyberstingers robotics teams had an incredible experience at the Cybersecurity Event, where they tackled a hands-on lab challenge, gained insight into engineering careers, and connected with inspiring mentors.
College engineering students shared their journeys, offering valuable advice about balancing academics and robotics, while guiding us through the lab and answering our questions. Annie Zhao, a senior at Notre Dame in Computer Science and Economics shared about her involvement in networks and machine learning. She’s had internships with Mars Wrigley, PWC, and McDonald’s. Ethan Bernstien, a senior at Johns Hopkins University, shared about his experience in cybersecurity through his corporate experiences while majoring in materials science and engineering.
The highlight was a motivating keynote from a professional Application Security Engineer, Kalyani Pawar, who encouraged us to dream big and embrace the challenges of solving real-world problems through STEM. She is a founding application security engineer for Zipline who uses drones for millions of delivers and has an MS in Security Informatics from Johns Hopkins University. Events like these remind us how teamwork, curiosity, and mentorship can spark innovation.
